You Can Do Anything But Not Everything
Aug 10, 2015

Throughout the many years I have been coaching mums and mumpreneurs, I have always encouraged my clients to pursue their goals, achieve their dreams and aspire for a happier life. Yet I always offer the same advice to these women: you can accomplish your wildest dreams but sometimes in life you may have to make compromises. This isn’t a bad thing at all; it is about choosing to do the things that mean something to you, as opposed to doing the things society expects of you.

You are a strong, independent and ambitious mum who has already achieved so much in your life. Yet you want more, which is great! Ask yourself what you would prefer doing: working towards the goals that will make you happy or cleaning the house from top to bottom?

Many mums think they have to do both; that their friends and family would think they are slacking if there are crumbs on the worktops and towels on the bathroom floor. The pressure mums put themselves under is ridiculous because we only get one life and we ought to live it in the way that feels right to us.

This week, take the time to think about the things that really matter to you. It’s likely spending time with your family will be high up on the list. What chores or tasks can you relinquish or forget about that will free up your time for your family? Can you make this change? Will you make it happy? I promise you that by giving up a menial task for a moment of laughter and fun with your children is totally worth it!

Never be afraid to ask for help. In times gone by, families stuck together and helped in any way they could. Nowadays many families live miles away from their in-laws and find themselves struggling to live life to the full. If you can afford to pay someone to help with housework, you’ll get a good return on your investment: more time to do the things you really want to do!

If you can’t spare the cash, ask your friends if you can help each other with chores, giving you both free time to spend with your families.

Finally, stop trying to juggle everything at once. Focus on each task and concentrate on what you need to do to complete it. Create a list for each day and work through each item individually. You’ll find yourself being far more productive with time to spare!
