You want good things to come your way, but when you've had a run of things going wrong, you can find yourself stuck in a negative mindset waiting for the next disaster to hit. But as we saw in this month's newsletter, for things to start going right, you need a different way of thinking. That's much easier said than done, though. So, in this blog post, we're going to look at the three easy steps you can take to stop the rot and start to take control of your thoughts.
1. Take Notice
We have millions of thoughts each day, and we only notice a handful of them. That can mean there's a lot of doom and gloom going on that you're unaware of and until you start recognising them, they'll continue.
Therefore, your first step is to notice those thoughts so that you can do something about them. Be more conscious of what’s going through your mind by stopping and asking yourself throughout the day or try a few minutes meditation and see what thoughts drift up.
Most of the thoughts we have pass through our minds completely unchecked or unchallenged. Our brains just take those subconscious thoughts as facts to store away. But they're not factual.
Once you start noticing the thoughts you're having, then you can begin challenging them. Look for the evidence that proves and disproves the idea. Show yourself that they're just a thought and not a fact. You can then reframe the thought to reflect what is true.
3. Daily Gratitude
One of the most powerful actions you can take to start seeing your life in a better light is to practise gratitude daily. Take five minutes at the beginning or end of your day to list a few things that you're grateful that day – it can be as simple as having running water in your home.
It takes consistency, and it's especially crucial on difficult days, but this really can give you a different perspective on your life and help you to see just how much is going right.
Changing your thought patterns so you can start attracting more good things into your life doesn’t happen overnight. Our thoughts are often habitual, and some have been present since childhood. Go easy on yourself and don’t expect a miracle overnight. Just spend some time each day trying to catch those thoughts, reframe them and to recognise the many things in your life already that you can be grateful for. Slowly, this will all become more of a habit, and you'll be ready for our next blog, which teaches you how to start actively attracting the good. For now, let me know in the comments what you're grateful for today.
