The Art Of Letting Go And Embracing Summer!
Aug 14, 2023

Summer is in full swing and if you’re anything like us, you might be feeling the stretch between juggling your responsibilities and making the most of the sunny season with your kids. It's tough, we know. Sometimes, to keep our sanity and joy, we need to accept that it's okay to 'let go' a bit during the summer.

You're probably thinking: "Let go? But I've got so much to do!" Yes, it sounds counterintuitive, but trust me on this one. Letting go doesn’t mean abandoning ship; it’s about acknowledging that you can't do everything, and that's perfectly okay.

So how can we ease off the pedal a little without crashing the car? It starts with being compassionate with yourself. From there, you can follow these easy steps.

1. Prioritise Your Tasks

This is key. Figure out which tasks are crucial, and which are not. Do you need to respond to that email right now or can it wait a couple of hours? Does your social media need daily updates, or can you switch to alternate days during summer? Do the kids clothes really need ironing when they’re going to be playing in the garden, getting dirty, wet, or both? Be honest about what's truly urgent and give yourself permission to let the rest slide a little.

2. Delegate When You Can

You're a superhero, yes, but even superheroes need sidekicks. If there are tasks others can help you with, don't hesitate to ask. Whether it's a partner, a friend, or even your kids – delegating can ease your load and create more 'you' time. Many mums and mumpreneurs can also find it life-changing to have a cleaner come in for an hour or two each week. There is no shame in hiring help, especially when it improves your qualify of life. Plus, you get to support another small business!

3. Embrace ‘Good Enough’

As mums and mumpreneurs, we can be pretty hard on ourselves, often setting high expectations. This is often driven by a need to prove our capabilities to others. But perfection is a tough taskmaster, especially during summer when time seems to shrink. It’s important to remember that it is okay for things to be 'good enough'. Your business can survive, and thrive, even if everything isn’t 100% perfect.

Ditching The Guilt

The only problem with ‘letting go’ though, is that it's often accompanied by feelings of guilt. But this can be overcome, too with these few simple tips:

Remember Your 'Why':

Whether you’re a mumpreneur, a stay-at-home mum, or a mum who also has a career, there will be a reason why you’ve chosen the path you have. Most likely, part of that 'why' was to have more flexibility to be with your family. Remembering your why can help you ditch the guilt because it focuses your mind on what really matters.

Acknowledge Your Achievements:

Remind yourself of your successes and all the things you’ve accomplished so far. You've come a long way, and it's okay to take a breather.

Practise Self-Care:

Letting go often means letting go of the pressure we put on ourselves. Take time to recharge and do what makes you happy. After all, a happy, relaxed mum makes for a happy, relaxed family.

Juggling business or work alongside raising a family is a Herculean task, especially during the summer holidays, and we understand the courage it takes. But remember, it's okay to slow down. It's okay to 'let go' a little. With a bit of prioritising, delegating, and an abundance of self-love, you can navigate this summer with grace, enjoying every sun-soaked moment with your family. You've got this!
