Planning Is Key, Delivering Is Vital
Mar 10, 2014

Throughout my e-newsletter and blog articles, I have often emphasised the importance of creating and maintaining a comprehensive business plan. Of course executing the plan is essential to your ongoing business success! I’d like to share an effective framework, which will help you deliver your projects, products and services in the most time efficient and methodical way.

Businesses, sectors and people vary considerably, which means your project will be completely different to the next mumpreneur. However, there will be similar steps to each project that will ensure tasks are completed in an efficient manner, whilst satisfying the demanding needs of your most difficult customer!

Deliverables

Identify at the outset of your goal what it is you need to deliver. What is it you are setting out to complete and what are your client’s expectations? Ensure these align, else you could find yourself in a whole heap of trouble! Clearly state what you are proposing to do and where your service starts and finishes. You can list what it is you want to do, for example: -

  • Create a five-page website with a blog
  • Sell 10 items of clothing from stock
  • Sew curtains and accessories for a new client’s living room Whatever your business may be, you should be able to identify exactly what you are selling.

Requirements You should have a good idea what you need to ensure your project is a success. You may need to purchase some stock to complete the work; you may need to ask the client for their wish list; you may need to outsource some of the work or delegate a task to a staff member. Clearly set out the requirements alongside relevant tasks.

Plan

You can create a template to contain all the required tasks with allocated deadlines, roles and responsibilities. This can be an at-a-glance document so you can quickly see what needs to be done to get the project moving and completed.

Delivery

Ensure the project is delivered to the highest standards every time. Going the extra mile in your presentation or timescale delivery will pay off in the long-term and possibly lead to future orders and repeat business.

Review

Always remember to review each project, whether it is a creative piece of work or a sale of an object. A quick phone call to a client is always a welcome surprise ensures they are happy with the service they have received. Alternatively you could invite them to an event you are holding to reignite their interest in your business. Generating business from existing clients is far easier and more rewarding that continually searching for new leads!
