Networking doesn’t have to be challenging! Here are some great tips to help you confidently network with others, build fruitful relationships and promote the benefits of your business.

Find your ideal group

Trying to attend every networking event in your area is not only exhausting but is completely unproductive! Find the groups that attract your target audience to make interactions easier and leads more probable.

Identify your goal

You may want to utilise networking events for different reasons. For example, you may wish to raise the awareness of your brand within the local community or you may want to meet a specific contact about a mutually beneficial opportunity. Whatever your goals, ensure you work towards achieving them by the end of each session.

Be confident If you attend a group and end up shying away in the corner, you will have wasted a good hour or so of your time! Be bold and confidently introduce yourself to other networkers. They will appreciate the interaction and who knows where it could lead.

Create a good introduction Memorise your introduction so you can succinctly share the details of your company. As a general guide, include your name, business name, a short summary of what you do, the benefits you offer and what you’re looking for. The more you say it, the more confident and credible it will sound!

Leave a card

Whatever you do, do not forget your business cards! Always have plenty available to swap with other networkers. Take along any company literature that you can leave with attendees and the network organisers. This will help to promote your brand to the wider audience.

Make a date If you do manage to generate a lead, ensure you arrange to meet up at another time before you leave the networking group. This will ensure the meeting goes ahead. If you say you’ll arrange it later, you might forget or worse, the lead might go cold.

Manage your expectations You won’t always get leads every time you attend a networking event. Be realistic about this prospect and channel your energy into achieving other goals. Keep in mind the people within a group who may be useful for your own needs too, such as book keeping or editing. It is always worth looking at a range of opportunities and other networkers you can support, rather than focusing on sales leads alone.
