The summer holidays can be such a fun time for families with lots of trips planned and exciting things to do. However, it isn’t always necessary to organise activities for every waking hour and sometimes it’s better to let your children entertain you! Here are some great ideas to help you enjoy family time without wearing out your batteries!

Make Believe Magic
Encourage your children to explore their imagination by asking them to create their own games and fun things to do indoors and out. It may be that they choose to create new characters and a make believe world. Alternatively, they may want to be creative and make up a brand new board game. Whatever they choose to do, ask them to set the rules and see how crazy their thoughts and ideas can get! Soon you’ll be in fits of giggles and loving every minute of their wacky world!

Soup, sir?
When I was a child, my friend and I loved playing café. We used to dress up and take orders from the grown-ups, reading out a made up menu in our poshest voices! Once in the kitchen, we tried our best to pour cold lemonade and fill plates of biscuits, which kept us amused for hours! These kinds of role play games are great for kids and encourage them to develop new culinary skills.

The Home-Factor
If your child loves performing, ask them to put on an act to entertain the family. Children love showing off their latest skills in singing, gymnastics, football or ballet. Nominate judges and give them buzzers for added fun!

Make Up
I haven’t met a child yet who isn’t fascinated by their mum’s make up bag! One day, let them put make up on you. It might be messy but it could be the funniest moment of the summer!
