How You Can Live An Intentional Life In 5 Simple Steps!
Jan 23, 2023

How can mums and mumpreneurs live a more intentional life on a day-to-day basis? Intentional living can feel like another expectation on your shoulders. There is already so much to do. However, being more intentional could actually be the solution. When you're intentional, you focus on what's really important in your life. That's why in this blog post, we're sharing how mums and mumpreneurs can be more intentional.

1. Media Consumption

A good place for you to start intentionality is with your media consumption. These days media surround us, whether this is an entire series being available on Netflix or an array of social media apps on our phones. Many of us spend more time consuming media than we would like. Most smartphones these days have a feature that can tell you what your screen hours have been that week. You can start by looking at this and deciding whether you're happy with what it's telling you. Is this media consumption aligned with what you want in life? Or has it been a distraction? When you are intentional about your media consumption, you consider whether it's going to move you towards your goals or not. It is surprising how much more time in the day we can create simply by limiting the amount of media we consume.

2. Clear Your Space

Our next tip is about decluttering. Clutter, whether in your mind or in your physical space, is always a distraction. Have you ever noticed how much calmer you feel after having a good clear out? Reducing distractions supports you in living intentionally. Consider it as being intentional about your surroundings and your thoughts! With a clear space and a clear mind, you can focus on achieving your goals and dreams without getting distracted.

3. Know Which Areas Of Your Life Need Focus

Now that you have cleared some time and space, you can decide which areas of your life need your focus. In December, we spoke about reviewing your year. Our suggestion was to break your life into different areas and assess how well each of these was going. If you have already done this work, then you will know which specific areas of your life require your focus at the moment. You have to know what you want to improve before you can take steps to make that happen. With a clear focus on which areas of your life you wish to work on, you can take intentional action and decisions which will nourish these areas of your life.

4. Set Your Goals and Focus On Them

You can only live intentionally if you have a clear focus on what you want to achieve, or on what you want your life to look like. This is where goal setting comes in. It is not uncommon for people to set huge goals and to then become discouraged, feeling like they are impossible to achieve. The key is to break it down into smaller steps. What are the things you need to achieve on your way to your goal? Once you know this, then you can live intentionally by asking yourself each day, what can I do today that will get me closer to my goal?

5. Prioritise The Right Things

When you have your goals in place and focus on them each day, prioritising tasks becomes much easier. Living intentionally means you give priority to those which bring you closer to the life you want. You're able to see more clearly which tasks aren't really that important. It might surprise you to discover how many of the tasks you set yourself are actually not that important and come from society’s expectations rather than what’s right for you and your family. Live intentionally by choosing what matters most to you.
