You’ve figured out what it is you want and how you want your life to look but what do you do next? How do you start creating it? It can seem a long way off if your vision is very different to how things are now, but it all starts with the first step.
Start With The Small Things
One of the easiest ways to start creating the life you want is to begin with the small changes. You could focus on those that will make an instant difference to how you feel day-to-day. For example, if you’ve decided that you would like to improve your health and fitness, then you can start by simply swapping a couple of your usual snacks for healthier alternatives or committing to eating a healthy breakfast each morning. It might seem simple but little things like this can have a big impact on your mood and how you feel.
Or, you might want to focus on the small things that are relatively simple to implement. As mums, we often end up with the responsibility of looking after the house. I’m sure many of you decided that you would like to spend less of your time cleaning! Getting help around the house doesn’t have to be expensive. You might hire a cleaner for just an hour a week or you could choose to allocate a chore to your children. It teaches them valuable life skills and gives them some responsibility. It’s a simple change but it’s a step in the right direction for you.
Creating Bigger Changes
Thinking about making bigger changes such as altering your work-life balance can seem daunting. Don’t let yourself get overwhelmed by this. As they say, “Rome was not built in a day”. It comes back to small steps again. Ask yourself what’s the first step to creating that big change or what one thing you could do that would make the biggest difference to how you feel.
For example, if you want to create a better balance, look at what would make you feel more relaxed. You might choose to go to a class once a week at the gym, go for a walk in the evening or book yourself into the hairdressers for 6 weeks’ time rather than leaving it another year. There’s no right or wrong here, it’s what would feel good to you.
If you’re a mumpreneur and it feels like the business is taking over your life, you might choose to hire a virtual assistant for a few hours a month to do some of the administrative duties or social media scheduling before you embark on employing a member of staff. It would be that first step on the way to becoming an employer and getting some time back for you.
