How To Create The Right Mindset For Success!
May 13, 2019

If there’s one thing I want you to know, it is that you can choose the life you lead. You are in charge and you can craft it to bring you happiness. You just have to make the choice. Once you make that choice, you are suddenly more open and prepared to what you need to do to make that happen. One of the most crucial steps is adjusting your mindset. In this month’s newsletter we covered three important areas of mindset. This blog post will take each of these areas and share how you can begin shaping your mindset for success.

Developing A Growth Mindset

A growth mindset opens a world of possibilities and there are some really easy ways in which to start developing one.

The first step is to catch yourself when you start telling yourself those fixed thoughts. Once you’ve recognised them you can simply add the word “yet” to change the entire meaning towards one that allows for growth. In this way, “I can’t balance work and my children” becomes “I can’t balance work and my children YET”. This opens the doors to exploring things to try that will allow you to find that right balance.

In time you can move towards asking yourself more empowering questions such as “how can I learn to balance my children and work” but first off, you need to notice those thoughts and open the door to an alternative.

Developing A Positive Mindset

Again, the first step is to begin catching those negative thoughts as soon as they start appearing. If you struggle to notice them you can try writing positive affirmations such as “I’m a wonderful and attentive mum” and “I’m successful in my work”. The moment you start squirming and feeling uncomfortable, it suggests that there are some negative thoughts and beliefs around that area.

Once you find them you can begin reframing them into more positive ones. It can help to list the evidence that supports your positive thought. For example, I’m a great mum as my children get 3 meals a day and are mostly happy.

Turning Failure Into Growth

I’m sure there have been times in your life when you feel like you’ve failed – as mums it can be something that we tell ourselves on a daily basis especially when our children are at the “you’re the worst mum in the world!” shouting stage.

But we never really fail. We simply find one way that doesn’t work and it’s important to take time to reflect and think about what we’ve learned as a consequence. Look back a decade or two and I’m sure you’ll be able to see the good that has then come as a result of that “failure”. Life has a way of working out for the better. Practise looking for the lessons and good that has come as a result of what you’ve considered failures in the past and you’ll be in a much better position to spot them straight away next time those feelings begin to creep in.

The biggest thing to remember about changing your mindset is that you must keep practising. It doesn’t happen overnight. Things change gradually as you build and strengthen those new pathways.

In our next blog post we’ll look at some practical steps you can take alongside this mindset work but for now, let me know something positive about your day today!
