Don’t Worry, Be Happy

Having a baby is said to be the happiest thing to happen in life and whilst I couldn’t agree more, I can’t help wondering why Mother Nature served a generous dose of guilt and flicked on the “Worry Switch” during the delivery! Since having a child, have you become a worried wreck and has this had a profound effect on your ability to be happy and relaxed in all situations? You’re not alone! Here are some tips to help you worry less and smile more!

Enjoy each day as it comes
If you find yourself continually worrying about tomorrow, you will never enjoy today. Try to live in the moment and savour every experience. Most of the things we worry about never happen. You can’t guess the future so why waste time trying?

Be present
Do you find yourself enjoying family time only to be floored by a worrisome thought? Did I leave the iron on? Did I send that client e-mail before the deadline? Suddenly, a bright sunny day has dissolved into the bleakest of moments and you’ve lost that special time with your loved ones. Negative thoughts can easily disrupt your happiness. Stop trying to be in two places at the same time and start enjoying the one you’re in!

See the bigger picture
If everyone in your family is safe and well, you can relax! Try not to worry about broken objects, paint splashed walls and mud-splattered clothes. Kids will be kids and, whilst it is vital to instil discipline, worrying about material possessions will leave you feeling jittery in your own home. If something is precious to you, put it out of the way. Everything else can be fixed and cleaned up.

Let it go
If something has happened to completely disrupt your day or week, don’t make the situation worse by dwelling on it: you will only waste more time. Realise you can’t do anything to change what has happened, deal with any fall out and move on. Negative experiences come to test us but they can be overcome with a positive mind set and an ability to let it go.

Be happy
If all your children see is a worried and uptight mum, they will become fretful and anxious. Let them see the fun mum you are! Worrying less will let you see things rationally; it will reduce your stress levels and enable you to make easier decisions. Embrace everything life offers and stop fearing the worst. Let go of your worry and start enjoying the joy of your family.
