Cultivating A Positive Mindset!

You are far more likely to be successful and achieve the things you want in life if you cultivate a positive mindset. However, we’ve often not been taught how to do this. If you’re a ‘glass half empty’ type of person and want to change that, then there are a few simple steps you can take to shift your mindset. In this month’s newsletter, we discussed how choosing your focus can support your mindset. However, this alone is unlikely to be enough. Below are seven other ways in which you can cultivate a positive mindset.

 

1. Make A Note This can help you keep the right focus too. The act of physically writing something down helps our brains to hold on to it. You can try recording what you want to focus on, the positives that happen each day, and the milestones you achieve in your pursuit of a goal. When you have negative thoughts, look back through your notes and remind yourself of all the good that has happened.

2. Rewrite The Negatives It’s important that when you catch a negative thought, you rewrite or reframe it into one that is more positive. You can then use this new thought instead. This can be as simple as adding the word ‘yet’ to the end of the sentence. For example, “I haven’t achieved my goal… yet” is one step towards positive thinking. Even better, you could tell yourself that you will achieve your goal and recall the steps you’ve taken towards it.

3. Identify Your Best Qualities And Strengths We can often find ourselves focusing on our weaknesses or qualities we wish we could change. Instead, take time to identify your strengths and consider ways in which you can play to them and utilise your best qualities. This will ensure you have plenty of small successes you can celebrate.

4. Embrace Your Weaknesses And Imperfections However, you can also benefit from your weaknesses and imperfections. Try to view them as an opportunity to grow and learn. Someone with a growth mindset believes they can overcome these, that with the right effort and learning, you can improve these areas. Ask yourself what you can do to tackle these weaknesses and improve on them, and believe you can do it!

5. Stop Seeking Approval You might not realise it, but we can often spend much of our time doing things to get the approval from others. However, this will only create negative feelings and, therefore, a negative mindset. It’s time to free yourself from the expectations of others and instead, focus on yourself and what you want to achieve.

6. Indulge In A Little Self-Care When you’re a mum or mumpreneur, it can feel impossible to find time for a little self-care. However, it really is essential. Not only does it help you avoid feelings of resentment, but it will also ensure your more productive and focused. Taking some time out will save you time in the long run and improve your mental wellbeing and outlook on life.

7. Get Support It is not uncommon to find that by the time you’ve realised your mindset is not in a great place, that things have spiralled downwards, and you might need help to reach a more positive place. At this point, life might feel a little overwhelming and you may think it’s impossible to reach a more positive space. However, help is available, and it might surprise you how dramatic the change can be in a short space of time.

Even those who have been aware of their mindset for a while will reach out for a little top-up help when required because they understand how important it is to their life experience.
