Create Your Own Calm

Creating calm isn’t as easy as it sounds. You need to make the most of it when the opportunity arises or alternatively plan in moments when you can devote some time to you. Calm is as much a state of mind as a physical environment, so uncluttering your thoughts and concentrating on positives can often be as beneficial to you as a physical rest from the day-to-day rush.

Unclutter Your Mind
You may find calm in many different ways. Every mum has their own concept of calm, her own ways of relaxing and switching off from a busy daily routine. Even half an hour of reading a good book or catching up on your favourite programme can be as worthwhile and reenergising as a mini-holiday. This is due to the calming effect of your mind being able to relax. By momentarily disengaging from your hectic life, your body is benefitting from the restfulness to its full potential.

Exercise your Mind
Regular solitary exercise is often good for creating a calmness in your day.  Having a run, walk, gym session, swim or yoga class are all good ways of achieving this. Solitary exercise, rather than sports such as tennis, squash or badminton, allow you to enjoy the activity without having to maintain a high degree of concentration. As such, these forms of exercise are as beneficial to your mind as they are to your body.

A Change is a Good as a Rest
Another way to create your own calm is to take a break from the norm. If you feel you’re maybe stuck in a rut, change that daily routine, pace or the way you do things. These don’t have to earthshattering behavioural changes, but just enough for you to recognise that a change has been made. Reworking your busy schedule will perhaps allow you so see how you divide your time up and clarify where you can make tweaks to your day. This re-evaluation might result in you having a little more ‘me’ time available for you to enjoy, as well as more time with the family. Try not to fill every single moment of the day, as this in itself can prove stressful.
