Avoiding The Pantry And Other Temptations!
Feb 10, 2014

Working from home offers many benefits to successful mumpreneurs yet it is also a haven for distractions and temptations that ought to be avoided! Distractions can easily lower your productivity and cut your bottom line. With only you as the boss, it can be difficult to stay focused on the task in hand.

The Biscuit Bulge

Many mumpreneurs find they overindulge when working from home. It is all too easy to snack on biscuits and other unhealthy snacks. With the best intentions, you reach for the snack cupboard to save time rather than making a meal but this does nothing for your waistline! Sugar rushes from unhealthy snacking have the ability to affect your concentration. Instead, keep a jug of water and a mix of fruit, nuts and seeds on your desk. If you get the urge to snack, you will only choose a healthy option. You can also remain at your desk rather than wasting time wandering aimlessly into the kitchen!

Online Socialising

Logging onto Facebook and Twitter is so tempting when you’re working alone. Checking emails and interacting on social profiles is a way to stay connected with the outside world. Rather than constantly logging on between tasks, allocate ten minutes every morning and afternoon to check messages and interactions. Any additional time spent in this way will be a waste of your potential productivity.

Family And Friends

It is often difficult to turn your family and friends away when you are supposed to be working. Educate your family and friends so they know when you’re working and how much time you need. Communicate clearly at the times you really need to focus on your business so you are left alone. When you are with friends, discuss work in the same way you did when you were employed. This will help them to understand that you are serious about your business and that you need to dedicate time to its success.

Housework As a dedicated mumpreneur, it is likely that you take pride in all you do. The temptation to dust and vacuum when the house is quiet can often be unbearable! Learn to close your office door so you can fully concentrate on your work. Allocate time in the week to complete household chores so you can spend your time constructively when working.
