Are You Feeling Festive Or Fraught?
Nov 10, 2014

When you juggle a dozen different responsibilities as a busy mumpreneur, the added extras brought on by the holiday season could see you reaching the limit! Most working mums feel harassed by the onset of the festivities but hopefully these tips will help you to manage your additional workload and enjoy a stress-free Christmas.

Carefully plan and schedule your responsibilities collectively so you don’t forget essential tasks. A great way to do this is by making a list. Include everything you have to do and allocate a deadline to each. Don’t forget seasonal business tasks, such as banking, to ensure you don’t fall behind in the New Year. Prioritise the tasks on your list and schedule each into your diary. This will give you peace of mind, knowing you are organised and ready for the festivities!

Identify what you really want to do this Christmas and stick to your plans. We often get invited to a multitude of events or think we have to send greetings cards to numerous long-lost relatives. Whilst it is great to be sociable, you could use your time more wisely. Decide in advance which events you would like to attend and to whom you really wish to send season’s greetings. This will free up time for more important or valuable tasks, such as attending your child’s Christmas concert or enjoying a family visit to see Santa.

Involve your family in your preparations and don’t be afraid to ask the help of others. You wouldn’t hesitate to delegate or outsource tasks at work, so why should your Christmas preparations be any different? Utilise the services of others around you, either calling on family and friends or instructing the help of professionals to get certain tasks done.

Always be prepared and don’t worry about starting too early. We all know Christmas Day falls on 25th December. This universal knowledge can help you to get a head start on your planning and preparation. Buying presents in advance and taking advantage of mid-season sales, will help you to effectively manage both your time and budget.

Order online or reserve as much as you can in readiness for Christmas Day. Not only can you buy your presents in advance online or by calling stores to secure certain items, but you can also reserve holiday meat at your local butchers. This will avoid any disappointment when you do your last supermarket run and will ensure as much as possible goes to plan.

Always remember to schedule time to relax and have fun with your family. Book a pantomime or cinema trip with your children so you all have something to enjoy together. Ensure you wind down as Christmas Day gets nearer so you’re not worn out by the time the big man comes down the chimney!
