3 Ways To Rediscover Your Motivation
Oct 22, 2018

When your motivation runs off and deserts you, it can feel like it’s never going to come back and we can start to think there’s something wrong with us. But I think it’s fair to say that every one of us experiences it at some point. So, what can you do when it happens? Here are the top three things you can do to get your motivation back.

1. Remind Yourself Of Your Reason Why

In our newsletter we talked about how important your “reason why” is to your motivation and how you could find it again.

But, what then? How do you use it to motivate yourself?

It’s easy for you to lose sight of why you’re doing what you’re doing on a day to day basis. So the best way to keep reminding yourself of that is to make a visual reminder. The most beneficial way to do this is with a vision board but there are plenty of other alternatives too:

  • Frame photographs of the people or things that make up your reason why and display them where you will frequently see them.
  • Write it out in big letters and stick it somewhere you will see it often.
  • Write a letter to yourself about why you’re doing what you’re doing and keep it to hand to read when needed.

The key is to make sure you are reminding yourself of your reason why regularly.

2. Break It Down

If you’re suffering with overwhelm, then the best course of action is to start breaking things down into smaller steps. By focusing on the next thing rather than the whole task that you face, you can reduce your overwhelm and find your motivation again.

For example, as a mumpreneur your mind is probably spinning all day with the admin, marketing, appointments and sales calls needed in your business, alongside what the family is going to eat for dinner, the forms that need completing and returned from the school, working on the youngest child’s spelling list and cleaning the house.

Instead, make a list of all the things that are rushing through your head. Break down bigger tasks into individual steps, prioritise and just focus on the one you are doing that hour.

3. Work On You

When was the last time you took time out to work on you? If you’re stressed or exhausted then gift yourself some time to relax and recharge. We often put this off, telling ourselves we don’t have time.

But the truth is, not only does it help our motivation to return, which in itself makes us feel more energised, but it also ends up saving us time. When you’re stressed or exhausted, you don’t function at your best and things take longer to do. Taking a rest means everything gets done more quickly, smoothly and accurately.

Another way in which to work on yourself is to identify the fears that are holding you back and then make a plan on how you can begin facing them. Whether it’s a fear of failure, judgement or success, getting to the bottom of that will not only aid your motivation but will improve many aspects of your life and your business.
