How can you improve your chances of achieving your goals and intentions for the beginning of 2021? In our last blog post, we looked at some ideas for personal goals you could set for the first 90 days of the year. These were ones you could control whatever happens with lockdowns and viruses. But that doesn’t mean that they’re challenge free or that you might find your mind occupied by other things. So, today we’re revealing our top 3 tips for achieving your goals and intentions.
1. Create Small Steps
Big goals or intentions can seem far off. It can leave us feeling like we’re not achieving very much or getting far. That can impact negatively on our motivation. If you’ve set yourself a bigger goal, it can really help to break it down into bitesize chunks. You can then focus on the next mini-goal that you need to achieve. This can give you the sense of progress, achievement and keep you on track to achieving the larger intention.
2. Anchor New Habits To Existing Ones
If you’ve decided to create a new habit, it can be tricky to stick to it until it actually becomes a habit. Life happens and before you know it, the day has passed. Suddenly, you remember that you’ve not done your daily habit and now you’re too exhausted to even contemplate it.
An easy way to start building a new habit, is to attach it to an existing one. For example, you go through the things that you’re grateful for while brushing your teeth or having dinner. Or perhaps, you can do those stretching exercises while you boil the kettle for your morning cuppa. It makes it much easier to remember a new habit when it is anchored to something you already routinely do.
3. Put It In Your Diary
You’re a busy mum or mumpreneur. Things come up all the time and have a knock-on effect on your plans. Even with the best intentions, it can be hard to make time for what’s needed to achieve your new intention or goal.
However, it can really help to add the time needed to your diary on your phone. Treat it as you would a meeting. Your personal development and wellbeing are just as important. Book the time in with a reminder alert so you can’t forget it and don’t overbook yourself. That way, you’re setting yourself up for success.
